Naadi Dosh: When Love Meets an Invisible Villain

Imagine two people deeply in love. Their story should be simple boy meets girl, hearts connect and they fall in love. But here, the villain isn’t a jealous rival, a scheming friend or a family.

So who is it? The villain is a belief, an invisible line written in the stars, a mismatch in their astrological charts called Naadi Dosh.

That’s the hook of the Gujarati film Naadi Dosh (2022), produced by Ananta Businesscorp and directed by Krishnadev Yagnik. Instead of a traditional antagonist, the film turns superstition into the obstacle. Kevin and Riddhi, played by Yash Soni and Janki Bodiwala, are young lovers whose relationship is tested not by betrayal or distance, but by the weight of tradition, by a word whispered in countless Gujarati households "naadi dosh".

In astrology, it’s seen as a dangerous mismatch, a sign that marriage could bring misfortune. But here, it becomes the heartbeat of the narrative.Instead of a monster or a rival, the obstacle is a belief, a superstition that carries the weight of generations. Watching the film feels like watching a tugofwar between destiny and desire, where every dialogue is a move, every family conversation a battle.

What makes Naadi Dosh stand out is its tone. It doesn’t preach, it doesn’t lecture. It plays with tension, humor, and emotion, weaving everyday Gujarati family life into a puzzle that the audience wants to solve. You find yourself asking: will love win, or will belief prove stronger? The film keeps you guessing, not with action sequences, but with the quiet suspense of whether two people can rewrite what’s written in the stars.

Ananta Businesscorp took a bold step with this film. By centering the story on astrology, they gave Gujarati cinema a fresh narrative device. It’s not just a romance; it’s an experiment in storytelling, showing how even a single line in a horoscope can become the heart of a drama.

Naadi Dosh reminds us that villains don’t always wear a face. Sometimes they live in ideas, traditions, or fears we carry within us. And that’s what makes this film memorable it turns superstition into suspense and leaves us questioning whether love can truly conquer destiny
